A number of activities are being organised by the local council to celebrate Birkirkara Week.

The first is an art exhibition in the hall of the Civic Centre, Tumas Fenech Street, Birkirkara, which will be inaugurated on Thursday evening. It is open to the public on Friday between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon.

It features works by 25 artists born in or residing in Birkirkara .

Birkirkara council is also organising a literary evening on Friday at the Civic Centre Hall in which works by authors born or living in Birkirkara will be recited. They include Oliver Friggieri, Alfred Sant, George Peresso, George Borg, Carmel G. Cauchi, Mario F Bezzina, Carmel Calleja, Guzè Cassar Pullicino and Frans Baldacchino. The latter will be also accompanying some of the readings on his guitar.

To mark the 375th anniversary of the foundation of St Helen's Collegiate and to celebrate Birkirkara Day, which falls on the same day (December 5), the collegiate chapter of St Helen's basilica, the local council and the Socjetà Dun Filippo Borgia are organising a music and literary soiree at St Helen's Basilica, on Sunday at 7 p.m.

During the soiree, the mayor of Birkirkara, Doris Borg, will preside over this year's investiture ceremony of Gieh Birkirkara.

On Monday, December 5, the public is also invited to attend a solemn High Mass at the basilica to commemorate the 375th anniversary of the foundation of St Helen's Collegiate.
