A sculpture in the newly paved Bisazza Street has already fallen victim to vandalism.
The sculpture features actors Ġemma Portelli, Charles Clews and Victor Apap sitting around a table, with an empty chair for people to sit next to them and take photos with them.
The vandals appear to have struck Mr Clews' face with a hard object, shattering it into pieces.
The vandalism was noted by policemen on the beat last night. The police are investigating the case and footage of CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity as part of the project
The Resources Ministry, which condemned the vandalism, this morning replaced the broken head with the initial model that had been prepared by the artist.
The street which has just undergone a €750,000 government project was inaugurated earlier this month by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and Rural Affairs Minister George Pullicino as people walked around and children played.
The Nationalist Party, the Sliema council and the Sliema Business Community condemned the vandalism.
