Mgr George Frendo, OP, was consecrated bishop yesterday in a ceremony in Tirana, Albania, attended by Archbishop Joseph Mercieca and Bishop Mario Grech of Gozo.

Mgr Frendo was nominated Auxiliary Bishop of Tiranë-Dürres and titular bishop of Buthrotum in July.

The diocese of Tirana-Dürres has a population of 1.2 million, of whom nine per cent are Catholic.

The main consecrator was Mgr Rrok Kola Mirdita, Archbishop of Tirana-Dürres, assisted by the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Giovanni Bulaitis, and Archbishop Mercieca.
