South African captain Aaron Mokoena completed his "dream" move to Blackburn Rovers this week, the English Premier League club said.
The 24-year-old from Johannesburg played as a youngster with Ajax Amsterdam before moving to Racing Genk in Belgium.
Equally comfortable in defence or midfield, Mokoena is manager Mark Hughes's first signing as Blackburn manager. Reports put Mokoena's fee at £300,000.
"I can't but say it is a dream come true," Mokoena said.
"I am very excited at the prospect of playing in the English Premiership.
"It feels right for me, it will be great experience and, at 24, I feel right for the challenge it presents."
The club said paperwork has been completed for the player to begin training as a Rovers player although international clearance for him to play had yet to arrive.
