Cruelty to animals sometimes appears to have no limit. Someone stuffed a blind cocker spaniel into a sack and abandoned it near Dingli Cliffs last Monday.
The Abandoned Animals Association (AAA) sprang into action at 9 p.m. when a man from Dingli reported that he had found the dog inside a sack. By that time the dog had already been in the sack for several hours and was in poor condition.
It died before Freddie Fenech of the AAA managed to reach it.
In another incident earlier that day, a doctor from the Floriana polyclinic was bitten when he went to the rescue of a poodle that had been stranded on a ledge at the top of a bastion in the Sarria area in Floriana. It had been spotted by the security guard at the clinic. This time the dog survived the ordeal thanks to the doctor, and AAA took it under its care.
Meanwhile, Mr Fenech is still trying to home a huge four-year old Great Dane abandoned by its owner some weeks ago.
The dog, named Andrew, was found sheltering in the doorway of a private residence in Luqa.
Until a home for it is found, the AAA is nursing the dog back to health.
