There were a total of 4,557 applications for the Blueskies broadband internet scheme over the weekend, IT minister Austin Gatt told a press conference today.

Expressing satisfaction over the take-up, he said registrations will continue to be accepted up to February 8.

The scheme offers broadband internet access at just €3 per month for a year for households which do not have access to broadband.

Application forms can be obtained from Maltapost, state school, HSBC and Bank of Valletta branches and the YMCA.

Dr Gatt said 58 percent of Maltese households currently have internet access, of which 80 percent is broadband. Although these were high levels when compared to other countries, he said the government was determined to raise them further.
