Boca Juniors goalkeeper Roberto Abbondanzieri saved two penalties and then fired the winner himself as the Argentines beat Mexico's UNAM 4-3 in a shoot-out to win the Copa Suda-mericana for the second year running on Sunday.

The tie went to penalties after the second leg ended in a 1-1 draw at the notorious Bombonera, the same result as the first leg in Mexico earlier this month.

Extra time is not played in the Copa Sudamericana, which is the region's equivalent of Europe's UEFA Cup.

Argentina's first choice goalkeeper then saved penalties from Leandro Augusto and Joaquin Beltran during the shoot-out while Boca's Guillermo Barros Schelotto and Martin Palermo also missed.

As the shoot-out went to sudden death, Gerardo Galindo struck UNAM'S sixth kick against the inside of the post and Abbondanzieri then stepped up to fire home the winner.

The win completed an excellent week for Boca, who last Thursday won the Argentine Apertura championship.

Their double came less than six months after the club appointed Diego Maradona as their director of football and Alfio Basile, who led Argentina at the 1994 World Cup, as coach.
