A bomb hoax at the Plaza shopping complex in Sliema disrupted business and office work for an hour yesterday morning.

Police headquarters received a telephone call, at about 10.44 a.m., informing them that there was a bomb at the Plaza.

The police evacuated customers and sales and office staff and members of the Explosives Ordnance Disposal unit from the Armed Forces of Malta carried out a thorough search which lasted about an hour.

A spokesman for the AFM said that the army can get up to three bomb hoaxes a day, costing the country a substantial amount of money and tying up valuable human resources.
