Guitarist Carlos Bonell, a celebrity on the international scene, will be giving a recital at the Manoel Theatre in Valletta on Tuesday, October 22 at 7.30 p.m.
The first part of the recital will be dedicated primarily to Federico Garcia Lorca, and will include works by Francisco Tarrega, Isaac Albeniz, Regino Sainz de la Maza, Reginald Smith-Brindle, Manuel de Falla and Garcia Lorca himself.
The second part of the recital will be devoted entirely to works by the Maltese composer, Gordon Mizzi, who was inspired at an early age to play the classical guitar, and who has composed a number of original works and transcriptions for the guitar. He draws inspiration chiefly from the Maltese, the Hispanic and the European. Carlos Bonell is currently producing a CD of the music of Gordon Mizzi.
Carlos Bonell has enjoyed an immensely varied career. His activities include TV, film and CD recordings, international tours, concertos with the major orchestras and concerts with his own Ensemble.
He was born in London of Spanish parents and studied at the Royal College of Music with John Williams. Since then, he has played in many parts of the world including most European capitals as well as in the United States, Israel, Australia and the Far East. He has appeared regularly with all the major British Orchestras as well as with a wide variety of musicians.
