Royal Navy veteran David A. Thomas has written a book about the various convoys to Malta, appropriately called "Malta Convoys", including the famous 1942 convoy Operation Pedestal.

Mr Thomas fought in the Second World War in the Royal Navy and has written over 16 books detailing different theatres of operation in which His Majesty's ships took part.

In this detailed book, Mr Thomas traces the origins as to why convoys to Malta became necessary in the first place and includes the reasons for Italian interest in the island.

He also details how German forces at first supported their Axis allies only to abandon them when Nazi fighting extended to Crete and later, the Russian front.

Apart from the overall context, it is the individual letters, memories and conversations of ordinary seamen which light up this book.

The paperback, which is over 220 pages long and includes photographs from private collections, is published in the United Kingdom by Pen & Sword and distributed in Malta by Miller Distributors Ltd.
