National Statistics Office information calculated with the help of Sedqa shows that in Malta, 7.1 litres of pure alcohol are drunk per capita per year, by those who are aged over 15, Sedqa chef executive Sina Bugeja said yesterday.

During the second part of December, Sedqa, in collaboration with Kinnie, is distributing to households and businesses a 16-page booklet on alcohol-free cocktails.

The booklet was launched yesterday at Bay Street.

"There are many reasons why a person should choose not to drink alcohol: the most important one to us is health. Everyone knows the effect of alcohol, but it is good for us to reinforce that knowledge," she said.

Recent research showed that in Malta, many people were experiencing alcohol abuse at a very young age.

Sedqa will also be organising a carcade, along with the All Wheel Drive Club on December 22.
