Former Celtic and Leicester City coach Martin O'Neill has emerged as the bookmakers' favourite to succeed Brian Kerr as Ireland manager.

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) said on Tuesday they would not be renewing Kerr's contract after he failed to guide the national team to next year's World Cup finals in Germany.

Ireland's leading bookmaker Paddy Power put O'Neill, who stepped down as Celtic manager in the close season, at odds of 9-4 yesterday with former Arsenal midfielder Liam Brady at 9-2 and ex-Ireland striker John Aldridge at 7-1. Aston Villa's David O'Leary was 16-1 and former Newcastle and England manager Bobby Robson at 20-1.
