Borg blames traffic for late parliament arrival ‘I have no escort unlike the PM’

PN leader Alex Borg arrived late to Prime Minister Robert Abela's statement on Palestine

Alex Borg said that he missed the first part of the prime minister's statement in parliament because he was stuck in traffic.

"Unlike you, I don't have an escort to whizz through, so I was stuck in traffic like everyone else," the PN leader said.

On Tuesday, traffic from the south was at a standstill in the morning and one commuter reported an hour-long journey from Valletta to Sliema at around 5 pm.

Borg made the comments after Labour Whip Naomi Cachia pointed out that the PN leader was not present at the beginning of Abela's statement, which detailed his various engagements abroad in recent weeks, including Malta's recognition of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly.

PN whip Robert Cutajar also complained that PN MPs were only given only two hours' notice before the prime minister's statement.

On this Borg said: "The prime minister thinks that the world revolves around him and decided to give us such short notice".

Abela said that even with two hours notice, Borg should have made sure to be on time for a statement on Palestine.

"He didn't see it important enough to arrive at the chamber on time," he said.
