After winning the first ranking tournament of the season, organised by the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association (MBSA), local snooker champion Alex Borg increased his lead at the top of ranking list to 350 points.
In a thrilling final, played last Saturday at St Catherine's Band Club in Zurrieq, Borg beat Simon Zammit 5-4.
The match first saw Zammit, then Borg, taking the initiative. It went down to the final frame, where Borg held his nerve to claim victory on the final colours and win the tournament, sponsored by Tivoli Confectionery.
That success gave Borg 400 points, taking his ranking points total to 1,600. Snooker championship 2002/03 runner-up Duncan Bezzina is second with 1,250 points.

The second ranking tournament of the season, sponsored by Teachers Whisky, will be played between December 13 and 21. The draws will be made on Monday at St Joseph's Band Club, Hamrun.
WSA Challenge Tour
Borg is currently in Prestatyn, Wales, playing in the second tournament of the WSA Challenge Tour.
He played his first match on Tuesday, the opening day of the tournament, when he faced Kobkit Palajin. The Malta champion was made to fight all the way, but won the match 4-3 with a fine 135 clearance.
Borg will play his second round match tomorrow when he faces James Reynols.
