Alex Borg, of Juventutis Domus Club, won the third ranking tournament of the season organised by the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association when in front of a sizeable crowd at Paola's De Paule Band Club he beat Duncan Bezzina 5-3 in the final.

Bezzina (Ħamrun Liberty SC) won the first frame but Borg went 3-1 up at the mid-session interval after Bezzina missed an easy pot on the black in the fourth frame.

When play resumed, Bezzina made it 3-2 but Borg went two frames up again by winning the sixth, helped by a break of 62.

Bezzina again pulled one back to stay in the match but Borg won a tense eighth frame on the black to secure the title.

After the match, controlled by referee Emeric Ellul, association president Joe Caruana Curran presented the trophies to the two finalists.

The highest break of the tournament was potted by Borg who in his Last 16 match against Philip Ciantar made a 134 clearance.

Borg is leading the provisional ranking list with 3,450 points followed by Simon Zammit, 2,500, and Bezzina, 2,450.
