Bank of Valletta recently hosted a delegation from the Australia-Maltese Chamber of Commerce at BoV's conference centre in Sliema. The delegation was greeted with an interesting visit to the bank's museum, which highlights BoV's origins and the history of banking in Malta.
Addressing the conference, Tony Camilleri, chief officer, financial markets stated: "Malta is going through an interesting and challenging period in anticipation of its accession to the European Union in May 2004.
"During the past years and in preparation for this event, the country has embarked on a number of initiatives of a legislative and regulatory nature which have resulted in a more efficient and regulated environment."
As a leading financial player in Malta, Bank of Valletta is also gearing up to position itself strategically within the new reality while constantly looking for opportunities beyond our shores. "By opening representative offices in Italy, Libya, Tunisia and recently in Egypt, BoV is exploiting its strategic geographical location while reaffirming its Euro-mediterranean strategy and vocation.
"Through these representative offices, Bank of Valletta will be promoting and seeking business opportunities in the European mainland, North Africa, the Middle East and the Gulf region," Mr Camilleri said.
The managers of BoV's representative offices in Tripoli, Tunis, Cairo and Milan delivered presentations to members of the delegation highlighting their main objectives. These were the creation of awareness within the business communities of the respective countries as well as acting as a platform for potential business.
