Bank of Valletta recently hosted 35 students from MCAST to a one-day seminar at its head office in Sliema. The students had the opportunity to learn about a number of areas directly related to BoV's IT services through a number of presentations delivered by BoV managers.
The students were welcomed at BoV's conference centre by BoV sales executive head Alan Cassar. Mr Cassar's presentation focused on "Managing Information in Banking". He also gave the students an overview of BoV's role within the local financial sector.
Paul Rizzo from the bank's call centre operations spoke about BoV's suite of 24/7 services comprising Internet banking, telephone banking, mobile banking and the Customer Service Centre. He also focused on the use of the BoV Secure Key.
Multichannel banking head Ray Azzopardi said BoV was always at the forefront in using technology to enhance customer service. He said BoV had a track record of being first to introduce innovative service delivery channels. He mentioned as examples the launch of telephone banking and Internet banking and said that BoV is still the only bank to provide mobile banking in Malta.
Another session led by Julian Curmi, the bank's information security officer, involved a technical discussion on BoV's Internet banking service and information security issues linked to the use of the BoV Secure Key. BoV's customer relationship management strategy was also discussed.
In his closing address, Mr Azzopardi noted that this practical one-day seminar is another initiative from BoV to support students who are planning to pursue a career within the financial services sector.
Mr Azzopardi augured that, following this seminar, all the students would be able to better relate theory to the practical information gathered from BoV's employees working within the bank's information management sectors.
The programme also included a tour of the bank's head office and a visit to the BoV customer service centre. All students who attended this seminar are currently in their second year of studies at MCAST's Institute of Business and Commerce.
