Trading in Maltacom shares opened at Lm1.11 on Monday and went up to close the week at Lm1.25 yesterday. 237,327 shares changed hands during the week, spread over 93 deals. At the close of business yesterday, 6,400 shares at Lm1.25 were the best outstanding bids while 12,000 shares at Lm1.27 were the best offers still unsatisfied.
In a company announcement issued on Monday, the board of directors of Maltacom plc published the financial statements for the nine months ended September 30, 2003. These show a turnover figure of Lm41,827,000 (nine months to September 30, 2002: Lm40,454,000), profit attributable to shareholders of Lm12,422,000 (nine months to September 30, 2002: Lm6,481,000) and earnings per share of 12c3 (nine months to September 30, 2002: 6c4). Included as an exceptional item is the profit on disposal of shares in Vodafone Malta Limited amounting to Lm7, 538,000.
Bank of Valletta shares opened trading at Lm2.45 on Monday, and went on to close the week's trading yesterday at Lm2.64. Trading during the week ranged between Lm2.648 and Lm2.45, with a turnover amounting to 64,590 shares changing hands over 39 deals. Following the close of business yesterday best bids for 1,500 shares at Lm2.63 and best offers of 983 shares at Lm2.65 remained outstanding.
Meanwhile, HSBC shares opened the week at Lm5.48 and went up to close to Lm5.52 yesterday. A total of 18,797 shares changed hands over the week, spread over 21 deals. These show a turnover figure of Lm2,193,000 (Year ended October 2002: Lm2,512,000), loss after tax amounting to Lm360,000 (Year ended October 2002: loss after tax of Lm197,000) and loss per share of 3c6 (Year ended October 2002: loss per share of 2c). The board of directors is not proposing the payment of a dividend.
