Bank of Valletta is collaborating with FIMBank by supporting the 2007 Symposium on International Trade being held tomorrow and on Tuesday, which is focussing on the key changes in the new UCP 600 rules in trade finance.

John Soler, chief officer credit of BOV, when speaking about this event, stressed that "BOV is pleased to be associated with this symposium which will undoubtedly offer practitioners and decision-makers with the right tools to be able to deal with the changes that the new UCP 600 rules will bring within trade finance."

He said that BOV and FIMBank have an excellent business relationship which has recently been consolidated with a co-operation agreement last year.

"Thanks to this agreement, the two banks are co-operating and promoting each other's services in a number of business areas and markets where each has significant competencies, expertise and market knowledge."

Fimbank's vice-president Philippe Saade thanked Bank of Valletta for its support. "This symposium will be an interactive discussion on the major changes in the new UCP 600 rules," he said. "It will offer participants with a comprehensive perspective on these rules, together with the effects such changes will bring about in the field of trade finance."

The symposium will be conducted by internationally renowned speakers who will discuss issues related to the implementation of UCP 600 rules. These issues include documentary credit operations, impact of these changes on banks and on LC users, SWIFT transactions as well as landmark court cases.

Important ICC opinions that led to the drafting of the UCP 600 also feature on the agenda. Subjects in this regard include transport articles, insurance articles and related provisions, regulatory aspects of Basle II and international trade finance.
