Boy, 6, drowns in Naxxar swimming pool
Child found in pool after wandering off while with his family in fields
A six-year-old child drowned in a Naxxar swimming pool on Sunday after wandering away from his relatives.
The child was reported missing at around 5.30pm, sparking a frantic search involving the use of police drones.
He and relatives of his were in an area close to Triq San Ġwann, in some fields the family owns in the area. The child then wandered off and vanished, prompting his relatives to call the police.
Various police sections were deployed to track down the child. A police drone subsequently flagged a body lying in a nearby resident’s private swimming pool.
The child was given first aid on-site by police officers and then rushed to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance. He was pronounced dead a short while later.
Magistrate Joe Mifsud is leading an inquiry into the death.
