Boy allegedly attacked by father no longer in critical condition

Although he remains hospitalised, he is no longer in intensive care

A boy who was assaulted by his father in an alleged attempted murder is no longer in critical condition, Times of Malta is informed.

“He is no longer in the ITU and his condition has improved significantly,” sources said.

The 12-year-old boy was allegedly attacked by his father earlier this month and was in critical condition for some time. Although he remains hospitalised, he is no longer in intensive care.

The father stands accused of attempting to murder his two children: the boy and his 10-year-old sister, who escaped the assault and sought help.

He was on the run for three days after the assault before a police officer came across him, identified him and arrested him.

Since he was limping, the father was taken to hospital where he was treated for injuries consistent with a fall.

It transpired he had tried to strangle himself and then attempted to jump onto rocks but ended up in the sea, where he was thrown against the rocks and suffered four or five broken ribs.

His daughter told officers at St Julian’s police station that her father had tried to strangle her and had killed her brother in the White Rocks area, but she had managed to escape.

When the police went to White Rocks, they found the boy lying in a pool of blood after suffering several blows to the head.

Sources said the boy’s condition has been steadily improving for at least a week.
