Brazilian motorbike champion Alex Barros has been invited to attend the 17th edition of the go mobile Malta Volleyball Marathon being held from next Monday to August 22 at the Trade Fair Grounds in Naxxar.
Barros is arriving in Malta on August 21 to lend a hand and follow the final phases of the volleyball marathon.
Barros has already sent over to be auctioned the clothes he wore for the eight-hour drive in Suzuka, Japan, on July 28 in which he placed third. The starting price of his clothes is Lm500.
Barros currently holds the record for the number of races he has participated in. He started in 1986 when he was 16 and has been Brazil champion, as well as won four races in world championships
He is currently racing with Honda Pons.
The marathon, organised by the Kerygma Movement, is to clock a record-breaking 240 hours.
Part of Solidarity Through Sports, the marathon is in aid of the Dar tal-Providenza and the Dominican Mission in Albania.
A varied programme of music, dance and song, Talentissima 2002, has been organised for the opening ceremony and the 11 evenings of the marathon. The programme includes 50 hours of cabaret, with the participation of more than 1,500 local entertainers.
