Central Cigarette Company Limited last week announced the formation of a new sister company, British American Tobacco (Malta) Limited. This follows from the decision to close Central Cigarette Co. Ltd's manufacturing operation in Malta.

The new company will be assuming importation and distribution of tobacco products in Malta. Central Cigarette Co. Ltd's employees will be transferred to the new company with the same terms and conditions including their past service with Central Cigarette.

Ronnie Abela, general manager of the new company, said: "Following recent developments, it was felt that it is now time to align our business structure with that of our parent company British American Tobacco plc.

"This change will not have any effect whatsoever on our business relationships and the quality and distribution of our products."

For the time being, the business will continue to operate from its current premises in Bulebel and there will not be any changes, besides the company name.
