Colin Furze, a self-acclaimed garage inventor from Stamford, England, built the “ultimate man cave and survival cell” in his backyard.
The three-metre deep ‘apocalyptic bunker’ measures five by six metres and is accessed via a hidden hatch in his shed. Furze, a 36-year-old former plumber, has decorated the concrete-covered room with a flat-screen TV, drum-kit, a bed, a kitchen and a toilet.
He said the ‘ultimate man cave’ had been a childhood ambition. It took Furze two months to construct with the help of a friend and his three-year-old son Jake. In four videos on his YouTube Channel he recorded the entire construction.
"It's a metal box in a hole, if you can cut bits of metal, then you can make one. The actual mechanics of it is quite simple, but it's a huge project," Furze told BBC News. He will add air filtration and different power source in the future.
The inventor, who has almost 1.7 million YouTube subscribers, is the brains behind a variety of unusual creations, including vacuum-cleaner shoes and the world's fastest pram according to the Guinness World Records.
Furze describes himself as the "most famous inventor you've never heard of". "I'm dedicating my life to making stuff we all want to see. If there's a massive disaster, the bunker is there to be used, but in the meantime it's a set for more videos."
His invention was funded by Sky1’s TV series You, Me And The Apocolypse. Furze works for Sky1 himself. Since 2012, he is one of the experts on Gadget Geeks, a series that focuses on technology and gadgets.
One can watch other crazy inventions, including the world’s longest motorbike and real wolverine claws, on Furze’s YouTube Channel.
