I find it hard to believe that so many Maltese traders give one price to a British person and another to a Maltese for the same product. This is constantly happening to me and many of my British friends who live here.

We work and pay the same taxes as the Maltese do and when buying property we pay more tax than Maltese, so that means that we pay more for everything in Malta.

Can someone explain why the government is allowing this to happen? It is no wonder that many British tourists are not coming to Malta any more, and it's not just the way they are spoken to. It's because they are constantly being ripped off.

I send my Maltese friend to buy things for me now as it's the only way to save money in these times of recession.

What is needed is some mystery shoppers here with a team of English and Maltese who go around the island making sure that everyone, whatever country they are from, is being treated the same.

Anyone caught overcharging should be fined, and if they are caught again then their trading licence should be taken from them. This attitude has to stop or tourists will not come.

Malta has so much going for it so look after it and stop greedy people spoiling it.
