Proud to be Maltese - that is the feeling I experienced during the Etnikafé Bum Bum show of July 31, in the magical surroundings of Fort St Elmo, in Valletta.

It is impressive what creativity together with the love for one's country's traditions and youthful energy can bring out.

Etnika is something that Malta should be proud of.

Not only is the group made up of excellent musicians, all still very young, but they also manage to integrate our dying traditions into something exciting, vibrant and attractive both for locals and tourists.

Bringing on stage il-Budaj backed by percussions and watching it-Tommi on stage pass on the crispy techniques of playing the tambourine to our youngsters, is something admirable and worthy of recognition.

The musical arrangements of some folk songs and the amalgamation of other commonly used phrases and tongue twisters into a crowd-involving song proves the point that this unique local band is a first of its kind and here to stay.

Thanks to Etnika we are experiencing a revival of the past generations' ways of entertainment in such a way as to make them as contemporary as any established DJing festival held on the island.

I wish to thank and congratulate Etnika for the sensational evening and the emotions they managed to provoke in the crowd. Thumbs up guys.
