Daniel Bogdanovic is the subject of interest from a host of clubs, including one from the German Bundesliga, well-placed sources have told The Times.

The Malta forward has emerged as one of Barnsley's most influential players since joining the club from Bulgarian side Lokomotiv Sofia for an undisclosed fee in January last year.

Bogdanovic is known to be happy at Barnsley where he has established himself as a firm fans' favourite but his towering impact on the Tykes has inevitably alerted other clubs who, it is believed, are lining up bids for the striker during this month's transfer window.

As Bogdanovic's contract with Barnsley runs out at the end of this season, the player is in a strong position. A significant offer from another club could tempt Barnsley to sell Bogdanovic rather than risk losing him for nothing at the end of the season.

Barnsley are widely expected to open talks with Bogdanovic over a contract extension in the next few weeks but so far, the player has made no comment about his future.

The Times has information that two clubs from the English Championship have identified Bogdanovic as a top transfer target. An unnamed Bundesliga club has also been monitoring Bogdanovic's progress and, in the past, the player had also received proposals from clubs in the Middle East and the United States.

Earlier in his career, Bogdanovic, who turns 30 in March, had spells in a host of countries, including Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy and Malta, but he has always been regarded as an outstanding talent.

His switch to Barnsley has brought the best out of the winger-cum-forward who, last November, earned a recall to the Malta squad for the friendly match against Bulgaria at the Hibs Stadium.

Barnsley currently lie 16th in the 24-team Championship with 30 points from 23 matches. They host Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow.
