Part of the country's memory was destroyed in the senseless act of barbarism perpetrated by unknown vandals when the Malta War Museum Association's archives at Fort St Elmo were burnt.

The Malta Library and Information Association wishes to express its solidarity with the War Museum and while condemning what happened extends its moral and material assistance in any way possible towards the restoration of the documentation lost.

One hopes that such a dark blot in the life of society, as the burning of manuscripts and books, will never occur again.
