Burst of white smoke off Sliema puzzles residents

The incident happened at about 7.15pm

A large burst of white smoke low over the sea off Sliema on Wednesday evening was likely caused by fireworks, a spokesman for the Civil Protection Department said.

He said the control room had not received any reports of any unusual explosions, but fireworks were to be let off in the area.

Residents reported the smoke, and an explosion at about 7.15pm, wondering about its source.

One resident said it appeared to be part of party celebrations in a nearby establishment.

Pyroemotions had earlier advised on Facebook that it would hold a fireworks show off Sliema/St Julian's.  ·
