A route bus driver was yesterday charged with causing serious injuries to a student and a driver through his negligence when the bus he was driving collided with a coach carrying schoolchildren last February.

Joseph Grech, 32, of Mqabba pleaded not guilty to seriously injuring coach driver Arthur John Galea and student Maria Attard and slightly injuring students Elaine Agius, Nikita Schembri, Clarisse Mizzi and Joanne Cassar and teacher Dorianne Schembri in Zebbug on February 27.

Grech was also charged with damaging the coach, driving dangerously and recklessly, speeding and crossing over a continuous white line.

The accident allegedly occurred in Siggiewi Road, Zebbug, at about 2 p.m. when a Leyland route bus, driven by Grech, collided with a Bedford Dominant coach driven by Galea.

Police Inspector Maria Stella Cutajar prosecuted.
