Daniela Borg Mizzi, public relations and maketing, Malta Transport Authority explains that the bus travel cards, bought some time ago at a cost of Lm1.50, are not generating any profit for the authority.

She does not say if the income from the full advert on the cards had ever been considered in the initial price. If not, I am sure these cards can be reduced in price.

Secondly if the government is so ready to subsidise the new buses, would it not have been a good way of attracting more commuters to introduce these cards at no cost?

I am sure the subsidy of one bus would have made thousands of would-be card users very happy indeed. Another worrying aspect is that these cards are going to be used every day, maybe twice or more a day. Wear and tear will surely make these cards useless after some time, how often do we have to fork out Lm1.50 to keep using this card system?
