Simon Busuttil in a tweet and a facebook comment this afternoon was critical of the prime minister's proposal to link the forthcoming local council elections to the European elections, reducing costs and avoiding voter fatigue.

‏"JosephMuscat is reduced voting age in local council elections to 16 but now wants to do away with the next 2 elections. Vote 16 = Vote 21," Dr Busuttil said.

"Fascinating. No sooner does Muscat win his second election in a row that he thinks he has the right to get rid of the local council elections due in 2015 and 2017."

The next round of elections for half of the local councils is due next year followed by another round in 2017.

The next EP elections are due in five years' time.
