A new chapel dedicated to the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament was inaugurated at St George’s basilica in Victoria last Tuesday.

To mark the occasion, an ecumenical celebration with the recitation of the psalms was presided by Cardinal Mario Grech, assisted by Gozo Bishop Anton Teuma and the St George’s Collegiate Chapter deacon, together with the Apostolic Nuncio to Malta Mgr Savio Hon Tai-Fai, Apostolic Nuncio to Morocco Mgr Alfred Xuereb, Archbishop Emeritus Pawlu Cremona and representatives of Christian Orthodox Churches and the Anglican Church.

The celebration continued with a Holy Eucharist procession along the streets of Victoria, leading to solemn benediction at St George’s Square and the placing of the Eucharist in the adoration chapel with the participation of the La Stella Band and the Laudate Pueri choir.

The chapel has been adorned with Byzantine-style mosaics by Art Studio, while marble works were executed under the guidance of architect Innocent Centorino.

The marble was brought over from Carrara and manufactured by A.F. Ellis. Anthony Grima, Christian Debono and Carmelo Farrugia carried out voluntary decorations on the chapel, including gilding works and the lighting system.

Saviour Micallef and Alex and Anca Costenco also contributed to the project.
