Local investment company Calamatta Cuschieri & Co. Ltd have been granted a Category 3 licence by the Malta Financial Services Authority. This distinctive license gives the company full rights to deal directly on their own account in international bond markets.

Alan Cuschieri, director of business development for Calamatta Cuschieri, explained that: "As long-established participants in the market, the license upgrade will allow the company to benefit from direct dealing with international market makers. This will ensure that our clients will receive the best execution possible at all times and consolidate our position as one of the leaders in the local financial services market."

The company has also appointed Michael Galea as head of treasury operations to be responsible for this new business arm. Mr Galea holds an MBA and B.Com (Hons) Banking & Finance degrees from the University of Malta and joins Calamatta Cuschieri from Mediterranean Bank Plc where he headed the markets and investments division.
