Nature Trust (Malta) has called on the Malta Environment and Planning Authority to abandon the practice of sanctioning property that was initially developed illegally and to accelerate the demolition of illegal buildings.

NT noted that no lessons seemed to have been learnt from the notorious Solemar Hotel case in Marfa, as testified by what it said was the great number of sanctioning of illegal properties currently taking place.

It pointed to a particular application as a possible case. The applicant called on Mepa to sanction illegally built structures in Gozo.

NT insisted with Mepa that sanctioning should be refused and the illegal part of the property be demolished at the expense of the developer.
