Philip Fenech of BJs Nightclub has launched this year's BJ music marathon and is calling on performers and the public to make the fund raising event yet another success.
The weeklong marathon, in aid of Wishing Others Well (WOW), the social arm of the Millennium Chapel cared for by Fr Hilary Tagliaferro, will start at 5 p.m. on the Monday following Easter, April 12.
Mr Fenech said that as other editions, this year's marathon would have two aims - the preservation of live music at a time when live music was under siege from the music played through sophisticated equipment in discos and to raise money for some organisation which was carrying out philanthropic work and needed the money.
Throughout the last 15 years BJs has raised Lm90,000 which were channelled to various worthy causes, including the Dar tal-Providenza of Siggiewi, Caritas, the Torball Association for the Blind and to help patients needing medical treatment abroad. The biggest sum collected in a single marathon was Lm10,000.
Mr Fenech said the marathon was open to anyone playing any style of music including rock, blues, jazz, pop, classical and folk.
Musicians who would like to help in the marathon can contact Mr Fenech or send an SMS on 9949 3534.
Mr Fenech said that apart from the established names in the musical field the marathon was also open to upcoming musicians.
The money is raised either through sponsorship of musicians or else through a donation at the door at BJs.
