Alternattiva Demokratika has called on the Prime Minister to honour his public commitment to invite AD to participate in the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development.

The commitment was made in a televised debate between AD chairman Harry Vassallo, the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition.

Dr Vassallo reiterated AD's role as a responsible opposition which is willing to contribute for the well-being of present and future generations. He said: "AD is more than willing to be a responsible voice for social justice and sustainable development in the MCESD. It has already made its proposals for a new social pact based on a national industrial policy. We are also willing to give our proposals on a pension reform which respects the rights of present and future generations".

AD also reiterated its proposal for more civil society participation in the MCESD. "Environmental and social NGOs should also be represented in this important body. Civil society participation is important to ensure that all stakeholders are involved in the restructuring of the Maltese economy," Dr Vassallo said.
