Camper and Nicholsons has been contracted with the design and commissioning of the new marina in Sanya, southern China. Sanya Serenity Marina will be the only Chinese stopover in the prestigious Volvo Ocean Race set to take place in 2011/12.

Sanya Serenity Marina forms part of a development being undertaken by Luhuitou Tourism Development Co Ltd which appointed Camper and Nicholsons for the design and commissioning of the marina, which will incorporate 400 berths and which will form part of a resort being designed by world renowned Chapman Taylor Architects.

Camper and Nicholsons considers this project as a highly significant step in their participation in China's rapid growth in the permium marina sector. It is also a major development for Luhuitou Tourism Development Co Ltd and the city of Sanya, which aim to establish a world-class tourist and yachting destination in this unique tropical environment.

In view of this new project, Camper and Nicholsons and Luhuitou Tourism Development Co Ltd are hosting a Chinese delegation from Sanya for a three day visit to Malta. During its stay, the delegation will have the opportunity to visit the headquarters of Camper and Nicholsons at Grand Harbour Marina in Vittoriosa, as well as the most important sights around the World Heritage City of Valletta and its harbours.

This is to better understand the model for the management of yacht marinas and to appreciate the positive economic impact that high profile yacht marinas such as Grand Harbour Marina can have on tourism and the economy at large.

Jiang Zelin, Honorary President of Sanya People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries will be heading the Chinese delegation, which will also include the deputy mayor of Sanya City Li Baiqing, the director of Sanya Foreign Affairs Office Ren Xide and other senior officials. The delegation also includes the managing director of Sanya Serenity Marina Hua Bin and Fan Hong, executive director of Luhuitou Tourism Development Co Ltd.

Nick Maris, chairman of Camper and Nicholsons Marinas International said: "It's an honour to be hosting this delegation, and to be working with Luhuitou Tourism Development on this development, which aims to bring the highest international standards to this important new marina. We look forward to working together to make this the premium marina in the region."
