A man who allegedly led the police on a car chase from Rabat to Vittoriosa last Sunday has been remanded in custody.

Dunstan Bugeja, 21, pleaded not guilty to driving dangerously and ignoring police orders, driving an unlicensed vehicle and jumping bail.

The police told the court that Mr Bugeja had been driving a Mercedes which did not stop for a spot check when ordered to do so in Rabat at about 7.30 p.m. on Sunday.

Members of the Police Traffic Section and the Rapid Intervention Unit were involved in the chase, which was dangerous at times owing to high speed and driving wrong-way through one way streets.

Bugeja was remanded in custody.
