A man injured in a traffic accident in 1992 was yesterday awarded Lm8,972.70 in damages by Mr Justice Tonio Mallia in the First Hall of the Civil Court.

Emanuel Navarro filed his writ against John Mary Fenech and claimed that while he was driving in the vicinity of Maghtab, Mr Fenech had lost control of his car, on the opposite lane, and had crashed into him.

Mr Navarro claimed that he had sustained serious injuries as a result of the accident and he requested the court to condemn Mr Fenech to make good the damages.

An independent eye witness confirmed Mr Navarro's version of events and stated that the plaintiff had been driving at a relatively low speed on the left hand side of the road when another car crossed the carriage way and collided with him.

The court added that the damages caused to the car also corroborated plaintiff's version.

The court noted that Mr Navarro had sustained a permanent disability of seven per cent and awarded him Lm8,972.70 in damages.
