Urbania theatre group will today perform Lucifero at the Caraffa Stores in Vittoriosa.

Lucifero is a 50-minute physical performance inspired by the works of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio.

"We decided not to be lured into merely reproducing his biography but to let his art - the formal qualities and the spirit of his work - be the core of our performance," Jonathan (Jimmy) Grima of Urbania said.

The performance makes use of digital projections, lighting, and live music by Jes Psaila on electric guitar and Isabella on cello.

Jamie De Cesare, Jan Micallef and Shaun Grech will perform at the Caraffa Stores tomorrow in what will be the last musical performance of the series held in conjunction with the Caravaggio exhibition, which closes at the end of this month.

Their style, which is electro-based, is dark and romantic, fusing ambient, chill-out and classical music with hints of jazz and Arabic motifs. It is atmospheric background music, using a wide variety of instruments, including analogue synthesizers and electric guitars, effect processors, sequencers and percussion.

Tickets may be bought at St James Cavalier (2122 3216 - opening hours 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.).
