Holy See’s Secretary of State to lead Sunday mass at St John’s Co-Cathedral
Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin is due to visit Malta this weekend upon the invitation of Apostolic Nuncio to Malta Savio Hon Tai-fai, who has concluded his term of office.
Parolin’s visit will take place on Saturday and Sunday, and will conclude a series of events held throughout last year to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malta and the Holy See.
During the visit, Cardinal Parolin will pay a courtesy visit to President Myriam Spiteri Debono and meet the Malta archdiocese episcopal conference, comprising Archbishop Charles Scicluna, Auxiliary bishop Joseph Galea Curmi and Gozo bishop Anton Teuma.
On Saturday evening, Parolin will be the keynote speaker at a commemorative celebration at the Archbishop’s Curia in Floriana, during which two books regarding relations between Malta and the Vatican will be launched.
On Sunday at 9.30am, Cardinal Parolin will lead a concelebrated mass in English at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta. Concelebrating with him will be Archbishop Savio Hon Tai-fai, Gozo bishop Anton Teuma, as well as emeriti bishops. The public is invited to attend.
Parolin, 71, was appointed Vatican Secretary of State by Pope Francis in 2013, and was made a cardinal the following year. He is a member of the Council of Cardinals and of various dicasteries of the Holy See.
