Labour MP Chris Cardona yesterday filed a libel suit in the Magistrates' Court against the Prime Minister, claiming that false and defamatory allegations had been broadcast about him in a political debate on Radio RTK and Radio Malta (PBS) on April 5.

These allegations were made by defendant, Dr Fenech Adami, when he claimed that plaintiff was one of a group of persons within the Labour Party, who were in favour of EU membership. Dr Fenech Adami added that as a result, Dr Cardona was contrary to the declared policy of the MLP.

These allegations, claimed Dr Cardona, were defamatory and exposed him to public ridicule and contempt. He concluded his writ by calling upon the court to condemn Dr Fenech Adami to pay him libel damages in terms of the Press Act.

Dr Pawlu Lia signed the writ.
