Caritas launches Gaza fundraising appeal

Monetary donations to be collected throughout August

Caritas Malta has launched an appeal for financial donations to support the people of Gaza “who are currently enduring extreme hardship”.

The fundraising campaign was launched on Friday at the request of the Bishops of Malta and Gozo and is being run in collaboration with Caritas Internationalis.

In a statement, the Archdiocese of Malta said families in Gaza are facing catastrophic humanitarian conditions as violence escalates and essential resources are depleted.

According to the Gaza Ministry of Health and the United Nations, the number of people dying from hunger and severe malnutrition continues to rise daily. Hundreds of children and adults are at immediate risk of death due to starvation and physical exhaustion.

More than 2 million people are trapped in an area smaller than 17 square miles (about two-thirds the size of Gozo) with 88% of the territory under Israeli military control or designated for evacuation.

For nearly three months, humanitarian aid has been severely restricted due to bureaucratic obstacles, logistical challenges and ongoing violence. The limited aid that has reached Gaza falls drastically short of what is needed to alleviate hunger or maintain life-saving services.

Access to affected populations remains highly restricted, including in locations such as the Jenin refugee camp.

Since 2023, Caritas Internationalis and its partners have assisted more than 1.7 million people in Gaza, providing food, shelter, dignified housing, water, sanitation, hygiene supplies, financial aid, and psychosocial support.

Caritas Malta is now appealing for donations to sustain and expand this critical relief effort.

Monetary donations may be made to the following bank accounts:

  • HSBC: MT22MMEB44897000000089021513051
  • BOV: MT78VALL22013000000040023270071
  • APS: MT31APSB7704600089010489011015

Those using internet banking with any of these banks can use the ‘Transfer to Third Party’ facility. This also applies to users of the BOV Mobile App. The transfer should be made to Caritas Malta Emergency Aid as the beneficiary name. In the payment details, select ‘Non-Profit’, enter one of the IBAN numbers listed above, and write ‘Gaza’ in the description field.

Donations can also be sent by cheque, payable to Fondazzjoni Caritas Malta – Emergency Aid Fund. Please note that banks only accept cheques of €21 or more. Cheques should be sent to: Caritas Community Centre, Emergency Aid Commission, Triq Mountbatten, il-Ħamrun, ĦMR 1577.

Contributions may also be handed directly to parish priests, who will forward them to Caritas Malta.

Donations will be accepted until September 1.
