Hundreds of people crossed over to Malta’s sister island to take part in carnival celebrations in Victoria and in Nadur’s spontaneous carnival. Extravagantly-coloured floats, grotesque masks and children and adults in fancy costumes took part in the festivities, which were spread over five evenings. Carnival was first celebrated in Victoria in 1951.
