Who is responsible for carriageway markings? What kind of qualifications and training do the people engaged in carriageway markings receive? Do they work under the supervision of any of the authorities?
A few weeks ago, part of Triq il-Linja, in Attard was given a new surface. and carriageway markings were painted at the corner with Triq Sant’Anton more recently.
Why extend the carriageway markings about a metre or more from the “Give way” traffic sign at the corner? Did the authorities approve such markings?
If a vehicle proceeding from Triq il-Ġonna collides with a vehicle coming out of Triq il-Linja which authority will assume responsibility? The extended carriageway markings beyond the end of Triq il-Linja are not only dysfunctional but also dangerous. The extension is even encouraging drivers to park their car in Triq Sant’Anton at the corner with Triq il-Linja.
Has the association of insurance companies noted this?
The old markings stopped at the foot of the “Give way” traffic sign and they served their purpose.
The new markings now block part of the way for vehicles coming from Triq Sant’Anton and heading towards the back of San Anton Palace when vehicles coming from Triq il-Linja are supposed to give them the right of way.
This same had happened some time ago when carriageway markings were painted at the corner of Triq il-Ġonna where they could not be seen from Triq il-Ġonna. Several drivers ignore the “Give way” traffic sign and proceed round the corner – a blind corner - without slowing down.
These carriageway markings need to be seen to and, if necessary, moved back by about a metre.
Incidentally, the white line in the middle of the road at Triq il-Linja has not been pained after a couple of weeks. Neither has the ‘pedestrian’ section been repainted further up the road.
Is it possible the authorities concerned do not care less and then take action after somebody gets hurt?
