When Vince Carter made a 35-foot shot while sitting down during warm-ups, the New Jersey Nets star knew it could be a night to remember.

It was as Carter scored 43 points in a 107-97 overtime victory over the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this week to become the 41st NBA player to post 10,000 points in his career.

"It's a great mark, and I'm excited," said Carter, a former Toronto Raptor who has been in the NBA for seven seasons. "I hope I can get 10,000 more."

Carter scored 27 of his points in the first half. For the game, he made 14 of 32 field-goal attempts, including 7 of 16 three-pointers, and pulled down 14 rebounds. He topped 10,000 points when he connected on a running bank shot with 2:22 left in regulation.

It was his second straight 40-point game. He had 41 during the weekend against Detroit.

"Maybe he's happier here," the 76ers' Kenny Thomas said in a reference to Carter's move from Toronto to New Jersey. "Maybe that's why he's playing better."
