An armed hooded man made off with an undisclosed sum of Maltese and foreign money after robbing the Exchange Bureau PDK Investments Ltd in Mellieha yesterday, the police said.

The man entered the bureau and demanded money from the two employees.

The police said the man escaped in a white Subaru van when he was given the money. No one was injured.

The police were informed about the hold-up at about 12.45 p.m.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the person was masked, wearing a dark crash helmet, and armed with a pistol.

The van had been reported stolen from Birkirkara. It was found shortly afterwards by the police in front of the Mellieha primary school.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi was informed and appointed architect Richard Aquilina and court expert Veronique Aquilina to assist him in the inquiry.

District police and the CID are investigating.
