Castello Dei Baroni was inaugurated as a tourist attraction by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi who marked its contribution to Malta's heritage.
The president of Assisi Pax, Fr Gianmaria Polidoro presented a gift of peace, 'Palma d'Oro', to Dr Gonzi at the inauguration.
First built as a small hunting lodge in 1783, the Castello houses former hidden treasures such as rare images of Valletta dating back to the late 19th century in the Supreme Council chamber, original books in the library dating back to the 16th century and a number of original artefacts dating back to the times of the Knights.
The recreation of various rooms on display such as the Grand Masters' bedroom, the meditation room (chapel), library and the hunting room have been designed to give visitors a real feel of the life and times of the Knights.
Listed as one of Malta's most diverse tourist attractions to date, the Castello takes its guests on a virtual panoramic tour of the Knights' history, allows them to partake in field archery, interactive falconry displays and picturesque walks around the surrounding gardens.
Besides the traditional displays of ancient pastimes and sports, the grounds offer unique leisure time at the well-stocked coffee shop, picnic area and a free wi-fi system.
