Michael Falzon, Chris Agius, Joe Debono Grech, Luciano Busuttil and Deborah Schembri were this morning elected in casual elections held to fill seats vacated by Labour MPs elected from two districts.

Their seats were given up by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, deputy Prime Minister Louis Grech, Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia, Finance Minister Edward Scicluna and Education Minister Evarist Bartolo.

Speaking shortly after his election, Mr Debono Grech thanked voters for returning him to Parliament, where he has been serving for 41 years. He said he was the oldest MP but still had a lot to contribute to the country.

Casual elections for the filling of five PL seats vacated by candidates elected from two districts are underway at the Naxxar counting hall.

The only new MP is Dr Schembri Tabone.

The seats were contested as follows:

First district: Luciano Busuttil, Yana Mintoff-Bland, David Farrugia Sacco and John Buttigieg.

Second district: Christopher Agius, Yana Mintoff Bland, Rita Law, George Adrian Meli and Victor Sultana.

Eighth district: Joe Debono Grech, Dr Buttigieg, Clifford Galea and Marc Sant.

10th district: Michael Falzon, Clifton Grima, Sigmund Mifsud, Joanne Vella Cuschieri and Nakita Zammit Alamango.

12th district: Clayton Bartolo, Clifford Galea, Alfred Grima, Deborah Tabone Schembri, Lorna Vassallo and Joanne Vella Cuschieri.

Casual elections for seats left by Nationalist Party candidates will be held on April 3.
